"Remember Winston Churchill"

The Churchill Centre, founded in 1968 shortly after Churchill death, is the world’s preeminent member organization dedicated to preserving the historic legacy of Sir Winston Churchill. At a time when leadership is challenged at every turn, that legacy looms larger and remains more relevant than ever.

The Centre’s local chapters in over forty cities around the world hold regular meetings and dinners, host author lectures and engage with students and teachers in their communities. For over thirty years, scholars, students and Churchillians from around the world have gathered at our highly popular International Churchill Conferences held each year in the North America or the United Kingdom.

The Centre is participating in the development of the National Churchill Library and Center at The George Washington University in Washington, DC. This important facility provides a long-desired permanent home for Churchill studies, scholarship and education in the heart of Washington, DC, featuring exhibit space, a comprehensive research collection of materials about Churchill’s life and legacy and a wide range of programming including lectures, seminars and conferences.

Outreach to students and teachers is a key part of the Centre’s activity. Our educational programs have included seminars for high school teachers held in cities across the United States and, with the support of the National Endowment for the Humanities, at the Churchill Archives at Churchill College, Cambridge; customized programs for undergraduate and graduate students at individual institutions such as Purdue University, Miami University of Ohio, Ashland University and Hillsdale College; and lectures and seminars hosted with other prominent organizations such as the Aspen Institute and the American Political Science Association.

The Centre actively supports original scholarship by leading historians on Churchill’s life and has assisted in the publication of new editions of Churchill’s own works such as Great Contemporaries and The River War. Among other titles the Centre has supported and/or published are Churchill: An Uncomfortable Hero; A Connoisseur’s Guide to the Books of Sir Winston Churchill; Churchill and the Great Republic (in conjunction with the Library of Congress) and our highly popular Churchill fact book, The Churchill Companion. The Centre also strives to ensure that the legacy of Winston Churchill remains prominent in the public eye, exemplified by our donation of a major bust of Churchill to the permanent collection of the United States Capitol.

Winston Churchill’s daughter The Lady Soames LG DBE served as the Centre’s International Patron from 1984 until her death in 2014 and was a regular and enthusiastic participant in its activities. The Churchill family remains actively involved in all aspect of the Centre’s work including serving on our Board of Trustees and attending Conferences and other events.

"The Churchill Centre and its members around the world play an extraordinarily important role in preserving the historic legacy of my great-grandfather, Sir Winston. My family and I sincerely urge Churchillians everywhere to join us in supporting the Centre and participating in its many interesting activities." - Randolph S. Churchill
