Establishment of the Churchill Society of Tennessee

csoc-tcc-197Growing out of a group of admirers of Sir Winston Churchill in Franklin, Tennessee and its environs, the Churchill Society of Tennessee has been established as a Chapter affiliate of the Churchill Centre, an International Churchill Society of several thousand members.

This is a group of ‘aficionados’ (Free Dictionary definition: A person who likes, knows about, and appreciates and usually fervently pursues an interest or activity.) who can come together periodically to enjoy convivial conversation and gain a greater appreciation for THE MAN of the 20th Century, Sir Winston Spencer Churchill.

This is not a ‘fan’ club nor a group that fails to acknowledge that THE MAN, at times, had clay feet. Rather it is folks who would endorse what his now deceased daughter Lady Mary Soames’s has said: ‘To keep the memory green and the record accurate’, also a motto of The Churchill Centre.

Bill DePriest is the President and is a longtime resident of Franklin, TN, who has in the past organized tours in the United Kingdom to the Churchill sites such as his birthplace at Blenheim Palace and his home in the Weald of Kent, Chartwell. Dick Knight Esq. is the Treasurer, Dr. John Mather, Secretary, and Joel Tomlin, proprietor, Landmark Booksellers, Franklin TN, is the fourth member of the Executive Committee

Anyone who has an abiding and deep interest in the relevance of Sir Winston Churchill to today, might want to consider becoming a member of this fun group that is an admirer of The Man for himself, likes good food, great libations (not a drinking club) and, yes, cigars.

A forthcoming meeting, Saturday April 2nd, will have as its speaker the Hon D. Craig Horn, Assemblyman, representing Charlotte to the, North Carolina legislature and Chair of its Education Appropriations Committee, who besides being a Churchill “aficionado”, is very knowledgeable about Civil War hostilities in the South. His presentation: “Churchill: Why is he Relevant Today”.
