"Fighting and Writing"

The Churchill Centre and the Churchill Society of New Orleans partnered with the National World War II Museum to host the 31st International Churchill Conference, in New Orleans. The conference took place on April 3-5, 2014, which was the 70th anniversary year of Operation Overlord. Overlord was the D-Day invasion of Europe on June 6, 1944.


 


The National Churchill Library and Center will be opening at The George Washington University in Washington, DC in 2016.

 


A panel discussion on Operation Overlord. Panellists included Nick Mueller, Director of the National World War II Museum of the United States and Allen Packwood, Director of the Churchill Archives Centre at Cambridge University. 

 


Field Marshal Bernard Law Montgomery, 1st Viscount Montgomery of Alamein, KG, GCB, DSO, PC, was nicknamed 'Monty. Montgomery was in charge of the 21st Army Group, commanding all the Allied ground forces taking part in Operation Overlord.

 


Harry Hopkins was one of Franklin Roosevelt's closest and most trusts advisors. During WWII he forged a close relationship with Winston Churchill, assisting in driving the Allies to victory.

Peter Clarke, author of Mr. Churchill's Profession: The Statesman as Author, describes in his talk how Churchill wrote to support his extravagant lifestyle.

 


Bourke Cockran was an Irish native who became a lawyer and member of the US House of Representative for New York. Churchill credited him with his role as mentor and helped him develop his famous speaking style. 

 


Author Michael Sheldon discusses his book Young Titan: The Making of Winston Churchill.
