National Churchill Museum to Honor New Fellows
Gen. David H. Petraeus and Author Jon Meacham
Report by TIMOTHY RILEY

Gen. David H. Petreaus and Pulitzer Prize-winning author Jon Meacham will headline Churchill Fellows Weekend 2017 at the National Churchill Museum on the campus of Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri. Fifteen new fellows altogether will be installed on the morning of Saturday, April 1st. The ceremony will take place within the Church of St. Mary the Virgin Aldermanbury, which was designed by Christopher Wren but bombed out of its original London site by the Luftwafe in 1940 and re-dedicated in 1969 as a permanent memorial to Sir Winston Churchill at Westminster College, where Churchill delivered his “Iron Curtain” speech in 1946.

Following the ceremony, Jon Meacham will give the National Churchill Museum’s annual Enid and R. Crosby Kemper Lecture. Registered guests will attend a celebratory luncheon immediately following the Kemper Lecture. In the afternoon, the museum’s Sandra L. and Monroe E. Trout Director and Chief Curator Timothy Riley will moderate “A Conversation with Gen. David H. Petraeus.” Gen. Petraeus is a Partner with the global investment firm KKR and the Chairman of the KKR Global Institute. After his retirement from the military, the general served as Director of the CIA, leading the agency during a period that saw significant achievements in the fight against Al Qaeda and its affiliates. He also helped in the development of a strategic plan to guide the agency.

Since 1969, the National Churchill Museum has recognized as Churchill Fellows of Westminster College more than 300 individuals who have demonstrated support, service, and concern for the Museum. Past inductees include Winston Churchill’ namesake grandson, Walter Cronkite, Gen. Dwight Eisenhower, Sir David Cannadine, Lady Soames, Margaret Thatcher, International Churchill Society Chairman Laurence Geller, and the Rt. Hon. The Earl Mountbatten of Burma.

Guests who wish to attend Churchill Fellows Weekend have two options. The Blenheim Package provides complimentary round-trip VIP shuttle service from St. Louis to Fulton. Guests who prefer to stay in or near Fulton may register for the Iron Curtain Package. Both packages include a VIP luncheon, preferred seating for lectures, tours of the National Churchill Museum, and the opportunity to meet honored guests including Lord Watson of Richmond and The Hon Edwina Sandys MBE, Sir Winston’s artist-granddaughter who created the sculpture Breakthrough that fronts the museum.
