“Into the Storm” – the BBC/HBO film (90 mins.) covering Churchill’s experiences from taking over as Prime Minister in 1940 until the 1945 General Election. Brendan Gleeson stars, (“the best Churchill since Robert Hardy” – the Churchill Centre) with Winnipeg born Len Cariou portraying Roosevelt. Both have been nominated for Emmy awards, and in all the film has garnered 14 Emmy nominations. Besides the rave review on the Churchill Centre web site, others have stated “Top Notch”; “Riveting”; “Absolute must for amateur and professional historians alike”.
“Churchill’s Island” – the National Film Board of Canada film (22 mins.) which won the first Academy Award (Oscar) for a Documentary in 1941. Narrated by Lorne Greene (Bonanza) then a CBC announcer. A film designed to generate patriotic fervour and an accurate illustration of the mood at the time.
