We are honored to have Dr. Justin D. Lyons, associate professor of history and political science at Ashland University in Ashland, Ohio, as this year’s speaker. Prof. Lyons has taught at Ashland since 2004. He received his Ph.D. in Politics from the University of Dallas in 2003, writing his dissertation on Winston Churchill’s statesmanship. His teaching and research has focused on Churchill’s life and writings, and his articles and reviews on Churchill have appeared in Perspectives on Political Science, The New Atlantic, Finest Hour, and other journals..

The Annual Black Tie Academic Dinner will be held at the National World War II Museum, 945 Magazine Street, New Orleans, LA, on the evening of Thursday, August 30, 2012. The evening will begin with a cash bar reception followed by dinner and a speaker. Dinner dress is black tie (or dark suit). Wine and beer will be available at 7:00 p.m.; dinner will begin at 7:30 p.m.

The Churchill Centre of Chicago and London organizes this dinner annually in conjunction with the Annual Meeting of the APSA. The Centre was founded in 1995 under the patronage of Lady Soames LG DBE and presently has about 3,000 members worldwide. It is the successor organization to the International Churchill Society, which was created in 1968. In 2007, the Centre merged with the Churchill Museum at the Churchill War Rooms in London. An international non-profit organization, the Centre encourages the study of Winston S. Churchill’s life and thought, and strives to keep alive his memory for future generations.
