5 September – 25 October 2011

Location: Bletchley Park, HUT 8

On to Bletchley Park to mark the 70th anniversary of Winston Churchill’s top secret visit there in September 1941. The exhibit open in HUT 8 at “Station X” on 5 September.

Bletchley Park is the third venue for this exhibition in the UK. It opened at Bristol Central Library in May and later travelled to Portsmouth Central Library.

Creator Niels Bjerre has been interested in Churchill’s life since the early 1990´s. However, it was visits to the Cabinet War Rooms in London (now the Churchill War Rooms) in 1987 that gave him the spark so to speak – i.e. his keen interest in and admiration for this “Greatest Briton”.

“Like many other countries which were occupied by the Nazis during the Second World War we Danes see Winston Churchill as the savor of the free world. One the things still moving me is his many wartime speeches. How he succeeds in kindling the spirit of the British people, but also everyone who wants to fight against dictatorship!

Here is this man who ones comes into the history and gives the inspiration of leadership and marks the way for the people to go. Against Churchill I still feel indeed very humble. It is my wish through these photographs to tell about Churchill not only as a statesman but also as an exciting human being” says Niels Bjerre.

“It is a photo and fact exhibition, meant to be an inspiration for people and giving the viewer an opportunity to find something they did not know about
Winston Churchill.

The challenge for me this time has been to pick out some pictures which are a bit different from those we normally see of Churchill during the Second World War. He is so nice and fantastic to look at in pictures – and that has always been great inspiration for me. It is my third photo exhibition about Churchill by the way”.

The exhibition at Bletchley Park is being displayed on “trend banners”. “It is a good exhibition material which will be easy to move the different exhibition venues.

Each year from 1940-1945 has a banner, showing 5 photos from the year. On top of each section there is a time line “Action This Day” showing important dates during the Second World War and for Winston Churchill. There will also be a banner tracing Churchill´s travels from 1941-1945 and about new books, CD´s and DVD´s” ends Niels Bjerre.

The exhibition ran from May until June 2011 at the Bristol Central Library and will be on view at the 28th International Churchill Conference 26-28 October 2011 in London. Other dates are expected to be announced soon.
