Location: Albany Club of Toronto, 91 King St. E. Toronto, Ontario

By way of three speakers, including Dr. Eric McGeer, who holds a PhD from the Université de Montréal and teaches at St Clement’s School in Toronto, “Churchill’s Deadly Decision” will be examined.

In the summer of 1940 Churchill was faced with a terrible dilemma. France had just signed an armistice with Hitler breaking a solemn vow with Britain. Only the English Channel stood between the Nazis and Britain. With Germany poised to seize the French Navy, an invasion seemed imminent. Churchill had to make a choice. He could either trust the promise of the new French Government that they would never hand over the ships to Hitler, or make sure that that did not occur by sinking them.

A fine DVD on the action will also be shown.
