Friday 20 August 2010, 3:52 PM
Where: Churchill War Rooms, London
Churchill’s rousing speech to Parliament on 20 August 1940 will be read aloud outside the Churchill War Rooms, followed by a fly-past of historic aircraft.
At 3.52pm on Friday 20 August, exactly 70 years since Churchill uttered the famous words ‘Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few’ to describe the heroic service of the Battle of Britain pilots, the speech will be delivered. Directly following this, the roar of a Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Spitfire and Hurricane will be heard overhead as they streak past to mark the end of their tour of Battle of Britain bases.
A refurbished replica Spitfire will be on display outside the Churchill War Rooms (16-31 August) while inside, a team of re-enactors will be showing how a Battle of Britain plotting table would have worked.
