will be 10–12 October in New York City’s famous Essex House

The International Churchill Society is pleased to announce that its 2017 conference will take place from 10 through 12 October in New York City. The venue will be the famous JW Marriott Essex House. Although the Society has met multiple times in London, Washington, Boston, San Francisco, Toronto, and Vancouver, this will be the first time that the international conference takes place in the Big Apple. Event details and registration will be announced in the Churchill Bulletin next spring.

Construction on the JW Marriott Essex House began on 30 October 1929, the day after the famous Wall Street Crash. The hotel, commonly known as the Essex House, opened in 1931 with 44–stories and Art Deco style rooms. The following year, the hotel erected its iconic six-story sign on the roof. Located in Manhattan at 160 Central Park South, the Essex House is directly across the street from the southern border of Central Park and is a member of Historic Hotels of America, the official program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
