Distinguished 2002 Vintage Is Latest Tribute to Sir Winston
cuvee-sir-winston-churchill-etiquette-mobileVenerable French Champagne house Pol Roger recently released the highly-anticipated 2002 vintage of their legendary Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill. Pol Roger describes this cuvée as robust and mature, much like the man himself, and notes it is modeled after their 1928 vintage, Churchill’s personal favorite that he purchased annually by the case. Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill has been Pol Roger’s prestige label for several decades. Released for the first time in 1975, this cuvée has produced 13 more vintages since that time.

Of champagne, Winston S. Churchill famously said to Mme. Odette Pol Roger and others, “In victory I deserve it, in defeat I need it” and, “It’s not France we are fighting for, but champagne”.

Pol Roger toward the end of the Second World War. They initially met at a dinner where he first tasted Pol Roger in 1928, thus solidifying not only his love for the brand but his relationship with the family. Following her husband’s death in 1956, Odette became a director of the company, and upon Churchill’s death in 1965, was invited to his London funeral. Their friendship came to symbolize the historic relationship between France and Great Britain; Churchill famously referred to the family home in Epernay as “the world’s most drinkable address.” Today, the company’s leadership includes family members Christian Pol-Roger and Christian de Billy.
