Richard Toye Delivers 2015 Kemper Lecture at National Churchill Museum

Richard Toye The National Churchill Museum of the United States, located on the campus of Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri, hosted the annual Enid & R. Crosby Kemper Lecture on Sunday, 8 March. This year’s speaker was Richard Toye, Professor of History at the University of Exeter. Professor Toye spoke about Churchill’s engagement with journalism when print media was still the dominant form. To watch the complete speech, please CLICK HERE.

Professor Toye is the author of three books about Churchill: The Roar of the LionChurchill’s Empire, and Lloyd George and Churchill. He spoke at the 2013 Churchill Conference in Washington, D.C. and contributed a feature to Finest Hour 166 earlier this year about “Researching Churchill in the Digital Age.”

The Kemper lecture series features authorities in the field of British history and Winston Churchill in particular. Official Churchill biographer Sir Martin Gilbert delivered the first lecture in 1981. The timing of the annual lecture commemorates Churchill’s famous Iron Curtain speech in 1946. The presentation takes place in the Church of St. Mary, a Christopher Wren designed building destroyed during the Blitz but reconstructed on the campus of Westminster College.
