Death of Sir Anthony Montague Browne |

Winston Churchill's Longtime Private Secretary Dies at 89
 Montague Browne's 1995 Memoir
Churchill Centre Honorary Member Sir Anthony Montague Browne KCMG CBE DFC passed away on April 1st, barely a month from his 90th birthday. The news was announced one week later with the result that it became easily overlooked following the death of Lady Thatcher on April 8th. Montague Browne was seconded from the Foreign Office to serve as the Prime Minister's private secretary in 1952. After Churchill retired from Downing Street in 1955, he asked that Montague Browne be allowed to remain with him. The request granted, Montague Browne stayed with the former Prime Minister until Churchill's death a decade later. Consequently, he had more contact with Churchill than anyone outside the family during the last dozen years of Churchill's life. In his 1995 memoir Long Sunset, Montague Browne chronicled this time with warm and absorbing style. |

Three Rare Churchill Paintings for Sale
 Italian Garden, 1930Three original oil paintings executed by Sir Winston Churchill in the 1930's
are being offered for sale for the first time. The works are "Coast Scene near
Marseilles" (1935) 13x16 ½ inches, "Italian Garden Scene" (1930) 27x23 inches
and "Marrakech" (1935) 16.5x18 inches. All are listed in the definitive catalogue of Churchill's works.
The paintings are owned by a member of the Churchill family and are currently on display at Churchill's home at Chartwell in Kent. This is the first time each of these works has been offered for sale on the open market and each is accompanied by a letter of authenticity from the owner. |

Churchill's Image To Be Worth Cash Money |

Churchill's Picture To Appear on Five Pound Note in 2016
 Click on the Image of the Banknote for a video explanation of its features.At a ceremony held at Chartwell itself, Mervyn King, the Governor of the Bank of England, announced that Winston Churchill's image will appear on the Five Pound banknote starting in three years' time. King was joined by Lady Soames, Patron of the Churchill Centre, and her nephew's son Randolph Churchill as the new design was presented using a large facsimile. The image used is taken from the famous "Roaring Lion" photograph made by Yousef Kharsh in the Canadian Parliament building in 1941. As a backdrop the new note will include an image of the Palace of Westminster and the Nobel Prize for Literature, which Churchill received in 1953. |

This past April the accounting firm of PricewaterhouseCoopers announced the results of a survey that it conducted with 1,330 Chief Exexcutive Officers of companies in 68 different countries. One question read as follows: "As a leader can you give an example from literature or history where someone exhibited good leadership?" Winston Churchill emerged as the number-one choice of the world's business leaders. Asked in a follow-up, "what did you admire about their actions?" one CEO replied: "He explained the reality of what people faced, and he mobilized them to deal with it." |

Additionally, the Centre keeps in close contact with the staff of the Churchill Museum at the Churchill War Rooms in London, the Churchill Archives Centre at Churchill College, Cambridge, the National Churchill Museum of the United States in Fulton, Missouri and of course Chartwell itself, Churchill's home in Westerham, Kent.
