More

George Ivey, Jr. has played an unassuming but integral role in the establishment of The Churchill Society of North Carolina.  His guiding hand has helped us become one of the strongest chapters of The Churchill Centre and International Churchill Society and fulfill our mission of bringing the Churchill lessons of Leadership, Statesmanship and Courage to a new generation of young people in North Carolina.  In cooperation with Dr. Wendell Musser, George shepherded our North Carolina chapter forward through its darkest hours when its very survival was in doubt.  We are deeply indebted to Mr. Ivey for his steadfast leadership, valuable insights and unwavering commitment to keep “the record accurate and the memory green.”

It has been sixteen years since the release of Volume One of “The Last Lion,” a projected 3-volume biography of Winston Churchill by William Manchester.  Volume Two came five years later. Sadly, Mr. Manchester died in 2004 before completing the final volume of his work.  Now at 350,000 words and almost complete, “Defender of the Realm” is expected to be released in 2010.  Paul Reid, author of the forthcoming “Defender of the Realm,” will be our featured speaker.  In 2004, Paul was appointed by William Manchester to complete this last volume of his triptych on Winston Spencer Churchill. Mr. Reid will preview the forthcoming work and the process involved in preparing this much-anticipated volume.

On behalf of our Host Committee, you are cordially invited to join us for a delightful evening as we celebrate the 135th birthday of Sir Winston Leonard Spencer Churchill.
