By BRIAN KRAPF

This six-inch tall chalkware statue of Winston Churchill is the only known piece of pottery that combines his head with the body of a bulldog. It is definitely from the Second World War war period and was likely produced in 1940-41. Unfortunately, the piece is not marked so we do not know the manufacturer.

This item is very scarce and seldom comes to market. One is displayed in the Churchill War Rooms and Museum in London. Be sure to look for it when you visit to see a rare example of an early depiction of the โ€œBritish Bulldog.โ€

Brian Krapf formerly served as President of the American Political Items Collectors.
